Sophisticated and practical build-out lounge for the Texas Women’s Golf Team at the University of Texas at Austin to accommodate the evolving needs of the team. I developed plans for the custom built-in furniture in the space, including booths and stationary bar stools. We then worked with an Austin-based carpenter to produce and install these impeccable natural wood pieces. Read more about the design below.

I worked closely with Head Coach Ryan Murphy on this project to ensure our design met the needs of the team and went beyond their expectations for what their lounge could offer. I created a space where the team can hold meetings, cook meals together, and relax during breaks in the athletes’ busy schedules.

The built-in furniture affords extra room in the lounge for occasions like celebratory gatherings with parents and friends after successful tournaments. Leather upholstery further elevated the booths and brought in another element that is central to beautiful Texas design. Horizontal white modern shiplap boards on the wall behind the booths accentuate and contrast the natural wood grain of the furniture. I also chose classic mid-century modern sconces to light the individual booths which makes this area of the lounge a perfect study spot for these student athletes.

One of my favorite parts of this project was getting to see behind the scenes of the fabrication of the custom furniture after visualizing what I wanted for the space. I visited our carpenter’s studio to see how the pieces were coming along and was so impressed seeing the craftsmanship in action. Being in the space for the installation was an exciting moment and I’m overjoyed with how well the furniture turned out!

I loved being able to give these hardworking players a space to take time off in!
